Many people work tediously daily but recording little successes from their efforts, which sometimes allows frustration creep in towards growth across different areas of their lives. This most times is as a result of unset and undefined goals.

In recording those steady achievements periodically, one must learn to define the what? Where? And how? , he or she aims to attain defined goals realistically, using the resources and capabilities available, and within a definite time frame. This is where the SMART principle comes to play.

Ordinarily, “SMART” as an English word means the ability to exhibit intelligence and cleverness in taking or carrying out apt and definite decisions, actions or inactions to achieve something. SMART as an acronym is the guide toward defining and achieving a pictured and intended reality to bring about fulfilment and satisfaction in the pursuit for success in a particular or general aspect of one’s life. Hence, it requires us to be smart in setting a SMART plan for an achievement.

It is a SMART plan that guides or fuels the drive to success on a possible step by step basis. Setting your SMART goals means making your target “Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Bound”. With these, you can draw planned steps and actions that will bring those envisaged goals into reality.
